Abstract painter in oils; constructivist, printmaker. He studies at Sheffield school of Art 1927-9, and at the RCA 1929-32. In 1930 he married Mary Balmsford. After a period of painting figurative works he produced abstract paintings in 948-9 and in the early in 1950s was associated with the constructivist group that included Pasmore, Hill ,Adams, Heath and his wife Mary Martin. They were nfluenced by the writings of Biederman; in 1951 Martin contributed to Broadsheet No. 1 and subsequently continued to publish widely on constructivist theory and his art.
