This is our summer exhibition of contemporary sculpture and installations including sculpture projects by the artists Sean Henry, Peter Burke, Ana Maria Pacheco and Graciela Sacco.
Peter Burke's continues to explore industrial processes and material in his figurative sculpture. Aerial Presence, which is currently on display in the atrium of the gallery, activates elevated space, drawing the eye upwards and projecting the gaze beyond. Peter Burke describes the development and ideas behind the project: ‘Aerial Presence grew out of a series of experiments to enclose and replace a form with linear material to achieve an implied encapsulation. I attempted to find an equivalent to a human presence by the most basic constructional means. The open structural nature of the piece lent itself to animating the space above our heads with something both there and not there.’
Sean Henry is completing the monumental 'Couple' bronzes to be installed in Newbiggin Bay in August. It is Britain's first permanent offshore installation, for which there has been massive media and public interest. Sean is also working on several sculptures for a new building project in the City of London.
We also have sculptures by Ana Maria Pacheco the Brazilian artist who explores issues of control and the exercise of power in her figurative sculpture, and Graciela Sacco who uses subtle photographic techniques to capture the transitory metaphors present in contemporary society. |
