SELECTED WORK Keith Vaughan 1912-1977 | < BACK |

Slade Study 13: Study for Hooded Figure (II), 1963 Gouache Signed and dated lower right. ill: "Keith Vaughan - His Life and Work", by Malcolm Yorke, (Constable, 1990), Colour Plate 35 11.0 x 7.6 cm (4¼ x 3 inches)
Exhibition History: Olympia, London, 26 Feb - 3 March 2002
Notes: From Keith Vaughan Journals, August 12th,
'I have been working these past days on the series of "Slade Studies" - small pencil drawings done usually at the Slade but sometimes at home (Table Drawings) which I then work up tightly, in gouache and crayon. The technical problems are quite demanding, but the concept is already there, so there is less strain on the creative imagination. They are very small. But they have a much more "finished" look than the gouaches which are done direct, more tight, and they look in fact like small reproductions of oil paintings. Have done 17 in the last week.'
