This book documents the production of Pacheco's suite of polychrome sculpture, entitled Dark Night of the Soul, which was made during her time as the fourth Associate Artist at the National Gallery, London, in 1999.

John Hedgecoe's photographs show the artist at work on the tableau, and by detailing the development of her ideas stage by stage, capture the stark, mysterious drama that the installation reveals. Sanda Miller's text throws light on the artist's imagination at work.

This book can be purchased along with George Szirtes's, Exercise of Power in a limited edition complete with an original print by Ana Maria Pacheco.
