SELECTED WORK Modern & Contemporary British Art | < BACK |

Saved!, 2003 Since 1903 the National Art Collections Fund has helped purchase more than 500,000 works of art for British museums and galleries. This amazing collection is celebrated in a film made alongside the Hayward Gallery's landmark exhibition Saved!
Ten of the greatest artworks bought with NACF help, among them Velasquez's 'Rokeby' Venus and the Beckett Casket, are celebrated by curators and guests including author Ben Okri, broadcasters Joan Bakewell and Loyd Grossman, and Tony Banks MP. Saved! A Century of Art for Everyone also explores the history and workings of the Art Fund and highlights some of the most significant losses to national collections in the last 100 years.
Paired here with Saved! is the film Rodin in London, which tells the story of one of the NACF's greatest gifts, Auguste Rodin's The Burghers of Calais. Cleaned and restored in 2003, this radical, expressive and moving monument was presented to the nation in controversial circumstances in 1914.
