KEITH VAUGHAN

Keith Vaughan was one of the most outstanding artists of his generation and for his centenary tribute we are presenting over eighty paintings, gouaches and drawings spanning every part of his career, surpassing the sixty works we assembled for our seminal exhibition in 2007. Some have been generously lent by private collectors and have not been seen in public for many years.

One of the most remarkable exhibitions in the recent history of the gallery was the Keith Vaughan retrospective that we mounted in 2007. Admittedly we put together an exceptional collection of the artist’s work but nothing prepared us for the reaction to the show and the acclaim it received. All 1,000 catalogues sold out in weeks and now trade on the internet for considerable sums. Incidentally we are reprinting the catalogue such is the ongoing demand.

The 2011 exhibition brings together a truly remarkable collection of over 100 gouaches, drawings and lithographs by the artist, many of which have not been seen before and come from a private collection formed over the last 20 years. Vaughan’s skill as a draughtsman is selfevident in the selected works which span the whole of the artist’s career, so tragically halted in 1977.
