About Us
Osborne Samuel Gallery was formed in 2004 after the merger of Peter Osborne’s company Berkeley Square Gallery and the adjacent gallery, Samuel & Co. directed by Gordon Samuel. The partnership continues the specialities of both businesses, the partners having collaborated on a number of important exhibitions for many years before the merger. Peter Osborne and Gordon Samuel have been in the art business for more than 40 years. Peter was Director of the Harlech Fine Art Group and founded Berkeley Square Gallery in 1988, which he acquired in 1994. Gordon was Director at Redfern Gallery and Mercury Gallery before forming Samuel & Co. Tania Sutton became a Director of Osborne Samuel in 2012. In 2017 the gallery moved from Bruton Street to Dering Street at the top of Bond Street in London’s Mayfair district.
Osborne Samuel Gallery is one of London’s leading specialists in Modern British painting and sculpture and has a high reputation for the quality of its exhibitions and publications. Known for its specialism in the work of Henry Moore and Lynn Chadwick the gallery also deals extensively in the major sculptors of the post war period including Kenneth Armitage, Reg Butler, Anthony Caro, Tony Cragg, Elisabeth Frink, Barbara Hepworth and Eduardo Paolozzi
The gallery deals in works by prominent British painters such as Frank Auerbach and Leon Kossoff, David Bomberg and Ivon Hitchens, the post war abstraction of Pasmore, Heath, Frost, Hilton, Lanyon and Blackburn; the neo-romanticism of Sutherland, Vaughan, Craxton and Clough and many others.
We specialise in rare British 20th century prints and are the main dealers worldwide in the linocuts of the Grosvenor School. Recent pioneering print exhibitions have included the complete prints of CRW Nevinson, Cyril Power and Sybil Andrews and in 2019 Gordon Samuel curated the biggest ever museum exhibition of British Modernist prints at the Dulwich Picture Gallery in London.
The gallery has a small stable of contemporary artists including John Blackburn, Brendan Burns and Sean Henry.
Osborne Samuel exhibit regularly at major art fairs in Europe and USA including Tefaf Maastricht, Masterpiece, Frieze Masters and Art Miami.
We work closely with several estates including John Craxton, Edward Wadsworth, Lynn Chadwick and Peter Kinley. Recent exhibitions include John Craxton, Keith Vaughan, Prunella Clough, Henry Moore, Eileen Gray, Lynn Chadwick and important survey shows of British Neo-Romanticism and British Sculpture of the 20th century. All our exhibitions are accompanied by substantial publications, downloadable from this website or available from our online book shop.
More than ever the gallery staff are aware how important it is to communicate effectively with our clients. We have therefore completely redesigned our website which now provides far more information about our inventory and programme. We have also introduced a Viewing Room where visitors can see the latest news from the gallery, special presentations and online exhibitions as well as our regular email newsletters. At the time of writing traditional gallery activities, a combination of exhibitions and art fairs as well as visits to clients are denied to us. This situation will change but in the meantime we are all working to provide the best service we can to our collectors. We have always been happy to deliver works on approval. We are also able to reserve works subject to viewing when conditions improve and offer creative payment terms. General advice on collections and appraisals are freely offered.
