Osborne Samuel are delighted to present their fifth major gallery exhibition dedicated to the work of Keith Vaughan (1912-1977), an outstanding Modern British painter of his generation, championed by the gallery since its formation.
For this exhibition we are privileged to offer a significant group of works from the same private U.K. collection, including his 1950 masterpiece, Theseus and the Minotaure, alongside his major 1960s oil, Group of Figures (Blue). The former painting was on a three-year loan to Tate Britain, 2010-2013. The latter work is illustrated on the front cover of the lavish 120-page exhibition catalogue, with an essay and notes by Gerard Hastings, the respected Vaughan academic. In addition, there are paintings and works on paper from our own inventory as well as other private collections, together with an important group of World War II drawings. In total there are over 100 works included, making this among the finest and largest Vaughan shows staged in the last thirty years, with the majority of works available for sale
