Justin Partyka photography workshop
Moving Forward: Friday 5th – Sunday 7th September
This three day workshop will provide the opportunity to spend three days completely immersed in photography. The focus will be to mentor a small group (six maximum) of competent photographers who want to move their work forward by developing a current ongoing project and / or concentrating on specific aspects of their personal photographic vision by making new photographs. This workshop has been designed to include accommodation so that as much time as possible can be spent on your photography over the three days.
The workshop will include group discussion stimulated by a range of materials including photography books, specific photographs, literature, etc to introduce ideas relevant to the photographic process. We will explore what it means to be a “photographer”, and what is a “photograph”; alongside trying to answer the questions, why do we make photographs and what do we want our photographs to achieve? It is important to recognise that photography can be a very personal and individual endeavour. Alongside these discussions, there will be time dedicated for constructive review sessions of both existing work and new photographs made during the workshop. Justin will also present his own work to the group including numerous recent photographs from projects that are still ongoing, and discuss his experiences as a photographer.
Participants who intend to photograph in Suffolk during the workshop will be guided on which locations may be most suitable for their interests, and Justin may suggest mini photographic exercises to help refine their way of seeing and camera skills. Those who want to develop existing work will guided on ideas for shaping a number of photographs into a finished body of work, including suggestions of other photographers to look at, introducing text to a project, or perhaps making some new photographs to add to the series.
Prior to the workshop Justin will communicate with each participant to help identify themes they want to focus on with their photography over the three days and he will suggest any pre-planning that will contribute to this. The limited number of participants will allow for each person to receive dedicated mentoring throughout the workshop as required.
The workshop will take place in the village of Peasenhall located just a few miles south of Halesworth and close to Darsham train station. The surrounding landscape offers extensive opportunities for photographing in the local area. Those looking for more urban locations can explore some of the surrounding market towns. And the Suffolk coast including the towns of Southwold and Aldeburgh is only 20 minutes drive away. The workshop accommodation will consist of comfortable holiday cottages in the village. Each participant will have their own room and will be free to work in the cottages anytime.
The workshop cost is £450 including accommodation and meals
